The Real Reason You’re Not in the Best Shape of Your Life: It’s Not What You Think.
It’s not your diet, your workouts, or your willpower. It’s the one thing sabotaging all three and no one’s talking about it.
Over the years, getting in shape has been something I’ve struggled with.
But I finally figured out one super hack.
Being stuck in a corporate desk job and picking up the habits of everyone around me, like some kind of lifestyle osmosis, left me in a loop.
One that ended with me being clinically obese at 223 pounds.
I’d drink too much and order takeout multiple times a week.
And because I’d only ever associated exercise with losing weight, I’d tell myself the gym was pointless unless my diet was perfect.
So I’d keep pushing my “start date” back…
To the next day.
Then next week.
Then next month.
Then next year.
As a former cricketer, I used to be super fit so I knew I had it in me.
But the constant feeling of falling short started to feel heavier than the weight itself.
The truth is I tried to do it all on my own.
I tried to manage my diet without actually knowing what was healthy or what was holding me back.
So I guessed.
And that guesswork killed my progress which had this domino effect on my confidence in the gym.
I started to lose conviction.
I’d catch myself thinking: “What if I’m eating all the wrong things and that’s why nothing’s changing? What if the gym doesn’t even matter if I can’t get the food right?”
Then the gym sessions got worse.
I’d walk in with no plan. Chat to random people. Avoid doing legs. Never do cardio. And just bounce around with some chaotic mix of chest and arms.
But like an old mate used to say: “Jay — the fastest way to get good at anything is to learn from someone who already is.”
So three years ago, I hired Chris James, who some of you might’ve seen on a live-stream the other night.
What started out as me looking for help with fitness turned into a friendship and something much bigger: Accountability.
I’ve always been pretty relaxed about letting myself down, maybe you can relate. But letting someone else down? That feels completely different.
Weekly check-ins with Chris have kept me on track for years.
I don’t want to show up and admit I haven’t done what I said I would, and I’m not about to lie about it either.
So I stick to the workouts, track my food, and stay consistent — simple as that.
Getting help is what finally stopped me from sabotaging my own fitness.
Now I’ve twisted Chris’ arm and he’s agreed to open 5 free discovery call slots for my readers.
No pressure. No fluff. Just a real conversation to help you get started.
Whether you go with Chris or someone else, getting support is the move.
It’s what helped me get unstuck and it’s probably what a lot of you reaching out to me in the DM’s need too.
So if you’ve left your health and fitness on the back burner for too long…
Do yourself a favour.
Book the call.
You’ve got nothing to lose — except the weight.
I know many of you are here for my NFT, crypto, and modern finance content — and if this blog isn’t for you but you know someone who’d find it helpful, feel free to share it. That’s how Carrot Lane grows.

Hey, Jayden just read your article and at 60 I definitely need to get back into shape, lose weight and eat healthier. Inspiring.
